Some presentations I’ve made:
“The Rootedness of Exile in the (un)American Lord of the Rings”
“Home, Exile, and the Nation,” University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN, 23 April 2010
Wherein I trace the thread of exile as it wends its way through The Wanderer, The Lord of the Rings, and Stephen King’s American apocalypse, The Stand. The presentation was well-received by the nerdier segments of the audience.
_______
“Competing Interpellators in Godard’s Alphaville: or How to Write the Most Awesome Lit-Theory Paper Ever”
ENG 453: Literary Theory, North Central University, Minneapolis, MN, March 2009
Wherein I guest-taught about the secret of writing good literary theory papers: Using Marxist Buzzwords! (Kinda.)
_______
“Celtic Living in the Light of Integral Reality”
ENG 475 The Ceilidh Seminar for Celi De’: Stephen Lawhead, North Central University, April 2008
Wherein I’m pretty sure I confused everyone by trying to relate Baudrillard’s concept of The Dual Form (as written about in The Intelligence of Evil or The Lucidity Pact) to traditional Celtic life.
_______
George and Eye
A reading of my original short screenplay at the 2007 Sigma Tau Delta National Conference, Pittsburgh, PA. Followed by a Q&A session.
Wherein I’m pretty sure I grossed out everyone in the tiny room with vivid descriptions of tumorous eyeballs growing all over the protagonist, George. (Not even the screenplay before mine, about soldiers in Iraq, was as graphic. Kinda gives you an idea.)
_______
The Man on Rue Madeline
A reading of my original short story at the 2007 Sigma Tau Delta National Conference, Pittsburgh, PA. Followed by a Q&A session.
